With certain styles of acoustic blues (Ragtime, Piedmont, etc) there's alot going on. You'll play chords, melody and the bass line all at the same time. The cool thing is, often you can play really cool parts without having to leave familiar chord shapes that you (probably) already know. In this lesson, I'll share an example in the Piedmont / Etta Baker style that will help you bring together the elements of good fingerpicking without having to fly around the fretboard.

    Tommy Emannuel even said that the trickiest part is getting your thumb to cooperate. There is a disconnect between your thumb (the muscle) & your brain (the memory). When thumb picking; each new song will present a new challenge for your brain & thumb... or whatever you've been given. The beauty isn't just in the song, but the feeling you get when you finally have the control to do it. It's a dexterity exercise that can take months to master each song or portion of... Even professional guitarists practice for months to rewire there brain to achieve a lick or a few intervals without flaw. Do it laying on your back in the dark. Close your eyes, keep the thumb going & practice the riffs. It's a meditation.

    Thank you for this- very helpful! I'm new to resonator guitars. About a year ago, I fell in love with the vintage Del Vecchio Dinamico Resonator guitar sound and after about 6 months of looking, found the right one for me. Since I'm new to the technical details, I do have a question for you about that. I'm not quite clear on how the Dobro resonator guitars are different from the Spanish style ones, but it sounds like it's for a different style of playing. I feel a deep connection to the sound of the John Pearse Resonator strings, thanks to hearing them in your video review, and was wondering: Do you think they will work for my 1960s Del Vecchio Dinamico Resonator?

    • @youtubebrows8095
      @youtubebrows8095 День тому

      To clarify when I ask if you think they will work I mean, would you say a Del Vecchio is more of a Spanish style and less of the Dobro style or is that just the type of playing? (Essentially, I want to avoid the mistake you were talking about in the video)
